This video was done by Choose Chicago which is the official Destination Marketing organization for the city of Chicago. While my current project focuses in on holiday attractions in Chicago, I really like how in the video they talk more broadly about the different things to do in Chicago. I also like how animated the speaker is and really drives home the story and makes the whole video dramatic and impactful.

My only issue moving forward with this story is, I am not quite sure how I am going to add visuals to my project because I won't be able to go to Chicago to get my own images and videos. My thoughts have been leading me toward changing my destination to here in Pittsburgh simply because I am able to physically go out and get the video footage I will need to complete this project.

  1. I think it's really interesting how you are approaching this like an add, trying to more or less sell Chicago to the listener. Being that this video was literally created for that very purpose, I think it is extremely helpful to your project. I'm not sure if the way the person in the video described Chicago was even as heartfelt or personal as yours; I think you had so many personal touches that made it seem more appealing than the video. The one thing the video has that made it seem appealing was the intense music, which may be something to think about. I think your connection to Chicago is so great, and I would hate to see you lose that story just because of a setback in visuals.

  2. Alex,
As we talked about in class I think that your piece on Chicago is really strong and since you do love the city so much I would say stick with that city. You can incorporate visuals that don't have to do directly with the city, but more general aspects of a city such as large crowds of people, scurrying feet, etc. I may be biased, but Pittsburgh is a more interesting city to write about anyway. Stick with what you truly love and don't let the visuals control what you choose to write about.

  3. I really like this source and think that our topics and inspirations are very similar. The line that stands out to me in this video is “Be part of its shoreline, its skyline, and its bloodline.” I think this is very dramatic, and along with the rest of the commentary, is able to paint a very cool picture of Chicago (which I love). I agree that you might be able to get better footage in Pittsburgh but I hope you are able to transfer the passion to a new city. Without great writing, even if you have the visuals your project might not be as great as it can be.
