The act I listened to that I really enjoyed was "Of
Course I Know You" by Scott Carrier. He encapsulated a lot of emotion and
really felt captured in the moment and felt like he was genuinely in the moment
of the story like he was reliving the moment in his head as if it were
happening to him at that moment in time. I hope to be able to incorporate that
much emotion into my piece as it makes it more relate able to the reader, and
it really adds emphasis to everything you are saying. I also loved the relatability
of the story, how everyone has been there at some point in time where they
couldn’t remember someone for some strange reason, and they are too embarrassed
to ask what their name is. This kind of hooked me in from the get go because I
was just constantly related to everything that he was saying. I also loved how
he changed the emotion and the tone of the story so smoothly and with little transition
in his voice. It started very innocent about how he couldn’t figure out where
he knew her from, and then it just slowly changed to the idea of his memory
being swallowed by a black hole. I also hope to incorporate the scenery into
the mood like he did. The best example of this was when it started to take a
turn for the darker side and he made sure that it was dark out and raining to
add emphasis to this point.
I remember listening to that story and thinking the same thing -- how attention-grabbing and relatable it was. I like what you said, also, about the smooth tonal transitions. The transitions were so smooth that I didn't even realize them! I think that if you can manage to incorporate these three characteristics into your own story as this story teller did, I think it would attract the ears of many listeners. I look forward to seeing how your story turns out!
ReplyDeleteThis story stood out to me a lot as well. I loved how we could follow his thought process and get frustrated and confused with him. It has so much emotion and it started to have an affect on me as well, which I didn't anticipate. I think it is really interesting to have a story where you allow the listeners to follow your thought process and emotions because that is where you are most vulnerable and raw. I am trying to accomplish this in mine, which is why this stood out to me. I think it would be really cool to incorporate scenery like you say you hope to. I'm excited to see how it comes to life!
ReplyDeleteThis was my favorite story as well. The way he told the story like he was reliving the events was especially powerful when tied to his emotions. His tone of voice strengthened the emotional connection and helped draw me into his story. This is a good piece to look to for writing your story, as yours starts in the middle of the action. I hope to see you reveal more of the plot of your story and tie it together by the end like in this story.
